As you know, I released Stinger and Bow, book 4 of The Sedumen Chronicles, not quite two months ago. And I’ve just completed the first draft of book 5, titled Watcher and Firebird. It is the second part of the story arc that began with Stinger and Bow.
Completing the first draft is in many ways the most important milestone, because now the novel exists in the world. Until now, it was just an idea, an outline, a “scriptment,” but not a novel.
It’s not the most important draft, necessarily; that may be the second draft. The first draft is where I spew out everything that I know about the characters and the story, just to get it all down. The second draft is where I start molding the clay into the story that I really want to tell.
In other words, Watcher and Firebird is a significant amount of time from being finished. But before I can put it out there, it has to be. And now it is. And that’s a good feeling.
